Why I Love Living (and Working) in Escondido

And Why You Might, Too

When people ask me why I’ve chosen to call North County San Diego home for over 16 years—and build my real estate career here—the answer is easy: it offers the best of everything. Whether you're relocating, moving up, or searching for a slower pace without giving up convenience, North County might be exactly what you're looking for.

Here’s why I love it—and why my clients do, too:

🗺️ Location, Location… Location

North County is perfectly positioned between it all. With family in Fallbrook, Temecula, and Los Angeles, and friends on the coast and in downtown San Diego, we’re central to everything. Most days, we can be at the beach—from Oceanside to Pacific Beach—in just 35 to 40 minutes.

And while San Diego traffic gets a reputation, North County keeps things manageable—especially if you know the best times to drive (locals know to avoid the 15 North after 2 pm, just past Escondido!).

🍷 Hidden Gem Restaurants & Local Favorites

You may not find the bar-hopping buzz of Gaslamp here, but you will find exceptional restaurants that locals swear by:

  • Stone Brewing, Escondido – A local treasure for outdoor dining. Picture this: grassy spaces, café lights, bamboo, bougainvillea, and heaters for chilly evenings. Oh, and the food and service? Top-notch.

  • Villa Tacos on Grand – This cute spot for street tacos is new to Escondido, but has quickly become a family favorite. The shrimp tacos are one of the best, and their prices are pretty reasonable (don’t forget to add beans as a side… thank me later).

  • Vintana – Yes, it’s well-known, but still a personal favorite for cocktails and apps on the patio. I mean, who knew the views from the top of the Lexus dealership would be so pretty? Pro tip: You don’t need to valet park! Free parking is available on the rooftop.

🍇 Wine Country, Without Leaving Town

You don’t have to drive to Temecula for great wine. There are over 20 wineries in Escondido alone, many tucked into the scenic Highland Valley area.

Some of my personal favorites:

  • Mia Marie Vineyards – Their Cobeck is one of my go-to white wines right now—crisp, refreshing, and locally made.

  • Domaine Artefact – Modern, chic, and peaceful. The tasting room is beautiful, the service always warm, and the vibe is effortlessly elevated.

  • Cordiano Winery – Unmatched views, wood-fired pizza, and the perfect casual setting to unwind. Bring a jacket for the evening breeze—it gets cool as the sun sets.

Whether you're wine tasting with friends or looking for a romantic afternoon date spot, North County delivers a surprisingly robust wine scene right in your backyard.

🌄 City Close, Country Feel

Some of my favorite neighborhoods—like Rancho San Pasqual and Ranchos of Vistamonte—offer something rare: large lots, scenic walking trails, and peace and quiet. You’ll feel like you’re living in the country, but you’re still just minutes from shopping, restaurants, and the freeway.

It’s that perfect balance of privacy and convenience.

✈️ Easy Airport Access—Without the Chaos

Living here means you're about 30 - 40 minutes from San Diego International Airport—close enough for frequent travelers, but far enough to avoid flight path noise or city congestion.

🛍️ Retail Therapy, Covered

Whether you're stocking up for the week or doing a little retail therapy, North County delivers:

  • 3 Costco’s within a 20-minute radius (including a business center for bulk lovers)

  • Major clothing retailers, home decor stores, and outlets

  • Local boutiques and seasonal farmers markets for that small-town charm
